Hey Greg, i use a Kinect 360 with my Vive, it works very well.

Next week im getting a Nolo kit in the mail, wireless controllers for my DK2 🙂

However, i got to thinking on my way home from work today:
The Nolo has three tracked parts, i know that at least the controllers are fully 6DoF since they can simulate vive wands, likely the hmd marker is also 6DoF.

Anyways, my idea/question/suggestion for a possible feature is this:

Could a Nolo kit with hmd marker and controllers be used to simulate three vive trackers?

Hmd marker on hip and a controller on each foot.

I think it would be more accurate than using the kinect 360 for body tracking since they would also give rotational data.

Im aware that you are likely busy with a list bugs to squash and planned features to add already but i wanted to share this idea and hear what you think about it 🙂

Thanks for a great program 🙂

EDIT: using the Nolo parts to simulate vive pucks could also be useful for other uses like camera markers for steamvr mixed reality video recording, like in the vive trailers where you see real people green screened into the VR environments, or for putting on props that you want tracked in VR world.

hi. yes that would be possible.
it would need similar calibration like we have with kinect right now.

Have i understood the kinect calibration correctly if i think that the virtual trackers spawn in and track right relative to themselves as soon as driver4vr is started and that the calibration sequence locates them relative to the HMD?

A suggestion for possible a calibration method relating to this i just though of for the nolo hardware:

Say for example you hold the nolo hmd marker/controllers in turn on your hmd or one of the wands or touch controllers and move them around in the tracked space together.

Could that be a possible/effective way of locating and orienting them into the VR space accurately?

hi, you can try this build. select Nolo from body tracker options and perform normal calibration with nolo tracker on head 😉 there is no preview but you should see that position of “Head pos (Kinect)” is changing as you move nolo tracker.

but should unregister nolo steamvr driver as we don’t need them to float around. but you don’t need to do it to just test if that works good for you. the only result will be 2 extra trackers floating around.

    1. go to
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SteamVR\bin\win64

    2. type cmd in path window on the top of windows explorer
    3. type vrpathreg.exe
    4. you will see where steamvr drivers are. i had this line:
    C:\Program Files\LYRobotix\NOLO_driver_for_windows\nolo
    5. type
    vrpathreg.exe removedriver “C:\Program Files\LYRobotix\NOLO_driver_for_windows\nolo”

this will unregister steamvr nolo driver.

if you need nolo back as head/hand tracking you need type:
    vrpathreg.exe adddriver “C:\Program Files\LYRobotix\NOLO_driver_for_windows\nolo”

Thank you for such a quick response on this, the pace you put out updates is really quite amazing.

Ive tried to set this up, your instructions were easy to follow but what i didnt realize was that the Nolo base station and the Vive base stations would interfere with each other.

When i turn the Nolo base on my Vive looses tracking when looking in its direction, it is no fault of your software, its a hardware incompatibility.

Im going to try using the Nolo for body tracking with my DK2 and im quite sure that will work because of the IR LED tracking it uses.

    Will report back again soon.

but you need a tracking system for dk2 too. right ?

ok. so you must stay with nolo for head and controller tracking I guess.

So it seems, im happy with the kinect 360 for my vive.

Ill try some more during the weekend to set it up, ill write back with an update if i get it running.

ah. i don’t track hydra. this was dedicated solution to nolo.
but hydra is very interesting . i can make general function to take over controllers and use them as trackers.
but i can see hydra is quite expensive. more then nolo…

Yeah, no need to include it, its not very available, the controllers have wires and their tracking tech isnt very accurate.

I wanted to try using the hydras for my hands and the nolo for body tracking on my DK2.

Seems it doesnt work but im going to try again during the weekend.

Otherwise ill just try and set up the Nolo as usual for the DK2 so ive got wireless controllers for it as well as my vive, that was the main reason i bought the nolo kit to begin with and i only paid 60$ for it anyways.

I tried Nolo VR hip and foot tracking today with new Driver4VR version 3.8. Positional tracking works good but not rotational. All 3 trackers moves but looking exactly forward. Is something wrong with my setup or this feature not supported yet?

it should work. will check and if not working will fix quickly.
