Is hello! I just got my kinect 360. Plugged it into my pc with external power supply. Installed all required drivers. But it doesn’t work, on my desktop. Installed drivers to my laptop and it works on it. On my desktop, the kinect keeps disconneting every 2 seconds and then comes back. The green light keeps flashing slowy. I just don’t know what to do.

So it works one one computer but not the other?

While i have yet to receive the kinect ive ordered i googled a little and here are some things to try:

A different usb port, if you have it in a usb 3 port (blue) you could try a usb 2 port (black), or try the opposite if its in a black port try a blue.
If you dont have usb3, just try any other.

If you have a lot of other usb devices connected, try without them because you migth be reaching a bandwidht limitation.
(seems more likely for rift users since their sensors have a large data output)

    Tripple check all cables.

Try connecting the kinect to a powered usb hub if you have one, the current might be too low for some reason.

Hope it works out and hope i dont have any trouble when mine arrives πŸ™‚

Yeap, tried those before creating this thread (expect the usb powered hub). I spend couple hours googling for a fix but non of them solved my problem.

    What about USB chipset drivers?

Are you using autoinstalled windows drivers, drivers from the OEM or drivers from the chip manufacturers web page?

    Try switching.

    Probably autoinstalled driver

i had similar problem in when I disabled microphone on my kinect 2.
i wanted to avoid recording and instead of mute I stopped driver I think πŸ™‚
as result behavior was exactly like in your case. do you think something like that could happen ?

secondly you can try uninstall drivers and then install them but first configure compatibility with windows 7 on the microsoft installer.

last, why do you think it reconnect every few seconds ? did you run any app form kinect sdk ?

The kinect has a built in surge protector, don’t plug it into a surge protector, it can cause it to not get enough power and toggle on and off

In device manager it only says “Kinect for windows device”.

And in properties it’s says that “There are no drivers installed ofr this device” eventhough I have installed the latest SDK 1.8 and tried 1.7v

I got it working, weirdly. I plugged my Kinect and webcam to same external USB hub (not powered by power supply) and plugged the hub to USB 3.0 on my desktop, and bam, it started working. I can see myself and can use Kinect studio. But, Driver4VR doesn’t recognize my kinect Β―\_(ツ)_/Β―

can you try any of apps included in SDK ?

I tried Background Removal Basics-D2D and Skeleton Basics-D2D. Both work as they should.

do you use webcam during gameplay ?
did you also use it during skeleton testing?

Nope to both. I think it doens’t even have drivers installed :3

what you mean by ‘disconnecting’ ?

    #1111

Well, Windows constantly played the “device disconnected” sound and device manager kept refreshing the list.

seems like usb bandwidth. do you use anything on usb during gamplay that you don’t use during skeleton test ?

Bluetooth dongle, which is plugged in the front usb hub and the rest of the hardware I use is plugged in the back of pc.

Got my kinect 360 and had the same initial problem as this thread, disconnecting on one machine, working on another, fixed it by hooking up to a USB hub.

I only had time for a couple of minutes messing around yesterday but it worked ingame, gonna try it some more during the weekend.

EDIT: It worked once but ive been trying to start it up again now and it keeps disconnecting πŸ˜›

so you are saying that one day it worked for you during some time and antoehr day did not?

only thing that come to my mind is that it don’t work when you have all dquipment up and running. so when kinect running standalone works but with vr don’t due to other usb being used.

Ive tried some more now, on my 2nd computer the kinect just works as soon as its plugged in, tried the fake greenscreen thing.

On my main rig it just keeps blinking, sometimes the motor device, sometimes the speaker device shows up.

Ive tried with a powered USB hub and it worked once but never again.

My bluetooth adapter for my mouse, rf module for my keyboard and the vive are the only other USB devices connected to the computer, they are in USB3 slots.

The Kinect is the only device plugged into a USB2 slot, tried with the hub in between.

    Tried USB3 slots, same results.

Tried finding newer USB driver, downloaded the intel updater thing and ive got the newest drivers.

Tried the 1.7 and 1.8 SDK, both installed in win7 and win8 compatability mode.

    Keeps blinking.

Should i try getting a PCI USB controller or does anyone have any other suggestions?

    Any solution for this?

Happens to me sometimes and I have to restart everything again to make it work :/
I am using V1.7 for kinect.

Or else, I think I will have to use an USB hub, as someone mentioned above.

The problem is solved for me now, picked up a pci usb controller 2nd hand from ebay.

Dunno what model but its a VIA chipset on it.

I will try the same then. I have tried all USB ports I have (3.0 and 2.0) and keeps disconnecting, so the usb hub or the pci usb controller (as you said) could be solution.

After disconnection and connection, the PSmoves won’t move anymore (they stay still), only the buttons work. So I have to restart the trinus, steamVR and D4VR

I bought this adapter and it seemed to have fixed the issue:
    Rosewill RC-508 USB 3.0 PCI-E Express Card

Also, have a look at this thread where we were commenting about it:
No supported USB 3.0 port detected with expansion card installed

YES!!!! I spent 2 days setting up my Kinect 360 to Windows 10 to use with Vive/Leap Motion and thanks to this thread I did it! The usb hub (very oddly) did it for me too. Thanks guys!

I got the same issue on any port and even with usb hub. I finnaly make it worked by enabling the microphone of the kinect in the device manager (it was desactivated and it was the issue that maked it reboot).
